Working Principle of Tool Holder Pull Stud

Date:2025-06-21Number:948

One end of the pull stud connects to the machine tool spindle taper, while the other end attaches to the tool holder.
The "D" section engages with the spindle taper angle, and the "G" section features threads that screw into the tool holder.
The drawbar transmits axial force through the pull stud and drawbar coupling to securely clamp the tool holder.
During tool changes, the tool holder must be released.

When installed on a conventional or CNC machine tool spindle, the pull stud's curved end connects with the drawbar mechanism,
while its threaded end engages with the tool holder's internal threads inside the spindle bore.
This design enables tool holder compatibility with both machining centers and conventional/CNC machine tools,
improving versatility and reducing production costs.

Tool Holder Clamping Mechanism:

During tool changes, the tool holder must be released.
The automatic tool clamping system inside the spindle is a unique feature of CNC machining centers.
As shown in the machining center spindle diagram, tools can be automatically loaded/unloaded and clamped.
The working principle is as follows: When the tool (2) is inserted into the spindle,
the pull stud (3) at the rear of the tool holder engages with the drawbar. Under the force of belleville springs,
elastic collets pull and clamp the tool securely.

Correct Installation Method for Machining Center Pull Studs:

Always use a dedicated pull stud wrench. Using an adjustable wrench or open-end wrench may cause wea
